Race Overview

San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers is the oldest consecutively run annual footrace int he world, a staple to the City by the Bay since May 1912. With a starting point near the San Francisco Bay, a few blocks from The Embarcadero, the 12k race runs west through the city and finishes at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto the Pacific Coast’s Ocean Beach. A quintessential San Francisco experience for 104 years, the race is interwoven into the fabric of the city and is a true reflection and celebration of life between the breaks and the Bay. The 2016 edition will take place on Sunday, May 15th.

Under Armour – MapMyRun Hayes Hill Challenge

San Francisco is known for its steep hills that fill the city. Bay to Breakers features one fo the most feared hills to climb, Hayes Hill. With an average grade of 5.5% (11.1% at its steepest), this .69 mile stretch of road is one of the toughest climbs in country. The male and female runner with the fastest time from base to peak of the hill will receive a $2,500 bonus!

*Each division and record prize money will be for male and female athletes.

+Bay Area defined as those runners who have billing addresses in these nine (9) Bay Area counties: San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Marin

General Info

Elite athletes have to register for this event prior to race weekend. Coaches, managers, agents and/or athletes must register with Michele Burke from Premier Event Management. Michele can be reached at michele@pem-la.com or 504-454-6561.

Elite Athletes must provide travel itinerary to Michele Burke if they need to have transportation to the host hotel. Michele@pem-la.com/504-259-5178.

Managers and/or coaches are required to make sure the elite athletes have cash in US dollars while they are in San Francisco. Race management will not provide cash stipends for personal needs such as food, drinks or snacks while at the event.
